Yes, you can start affiliate marketing with no money. Join a free-to-join program, take free training, set up one simple opt-in page, and publish on one free traffic channel while you track your clicks. What "free" costs is time, plus a few small admin steps. The six steps below take you from zero to your first published content.
This page is part of my affiliate marketing for beginners guide. If you want the cost side, the beginner budget guide is the companion page. This one is for people who want to begin at $0.
Can you start affiliate marketing with no money?
You can, because the pieces you need to begin exist in free versions: affiliate accounts, a tracked link, beginner training, design and email tools with free plans, and platforms where you can publish. Nobody has to pay for a website, a course or ads to send their first click.
What you cannot skip is effort. Affiliate marketing pays when a recommendation leads to a sale, so a free start still needs content, patience and follow-up. Nobody can honestly promise how fast that happens or how much it earns.
If you are also wondering whether you need a site, read affiliate marketing without a website. The short version is no.
Affiliate marketing without money: what is truly free, and what costs you instead
"Free" moves the cost around. This table shows where.
| Need | Free way to cover it | What it costs you instead |
|---|---|---|
| An offer and tracked link | A free-to-join program or marketplace account | Time to read the terms, and sometimes vendor approval |
| Training | Free courses, help centers and the platform's own guides | More self-study and fewer ready-made assets |
| A place to send people | The opt-in page your program provides, or a free page or link tool | Less control over design and branding |
| Email follow-up | A free email plan, where the provider allows your use | Subscriber limits and fewer features |
| Traffic | Short video, Pinterest, YouTube, helpful answers in communities | Hours of content creation, and slow, uneven results |
| Tracking | Your program's stats and a simple spreadsheet | Manual logging every week |
Notice that time appears in every row. That is the real budget of a $0 start. If you can spare 5 to 10 hours a week, you have enough to run this plan properly. If you have none, no tool will fix that. For a rhythm that fits around a job, see the affiliate marketing side hustle guide.
How to start affiliate marketing with no money: 6 steps
- Pick one topic and one free-to-join offer. Choose a subject you can talk about for months and one product within it. Compare options in affiliate marketing programs for beginners, and promote only one offer at first.
- Take a short piece of free training. Learn the basics of the offer, the link and the follow-up before you publish. Free options are listed further down, and the training roundup compares free and paid choices.
- Get your tracked link and read the promotion rules. Vendors and platforms set rules on where and how you may promote. A quick read now prevents a banned account later.
- Set up one simple opt-in page. Use the page the program provides, or a free page tool. Its only job is to collect an email address so you can follow up. See the beginner funnel for how the pieces fit.
- Publish on one free channel for two weeks. Give useful answers first, mention the offer where it truly helps, and add your affiliate disclosure. The FTC's guidance says to place a disclosure with the endorsement itself, not only in a profile or at the end of a post.
- Track clicks and follow up. Log clicks, sign-ups and sales weekly. Send a short, helpful email to new subscribers. See affiliate tracking for beginners and how to build an email list.
Free-to-join programs to look at
These are the platforms most beginners meet first. I read each official page in September 2026, and I only list what the pages state. Terms change, so re-check before you join. (as of September 2026)
- ClickBank: the affiliate page says you sign up for a free ClickBank account. Its getting-started guide adds that affiliates who earn over $600 need a taxpayer identification number.
- Digistore24: the affiliate page says it is "always free for affiliates" with "zero costs, ever."
- WarriorPlus: the help page says you request approval for specific products, and that you must fill out a tax form before withdrawing funds. It mentions no joining fee.
- JVZoo: the affiliate page says there are no monthly fees or subscriptions, but a one-time $5 KYC verification is needed to unlock payouts.
- Amazon Associates: the program page says a qualifying website or mobile app is needed, so it is a poor first choice if you want to start with no site.

Free training and free tools
Training. Start with what the platforms give you: their help centers and getting-started guides are free. Then add one structured beginner course. The free OLSP Academy account includes the 10-Minute Commission Challenge, which I describe below. Avoid collecting five courses at once. One course you finish beats five you skim.
Tools. You need very little:
- A free design tool for simple images and thumbnails.
- A free email plan, if the provider's terms allow affiliate promotion. Check the subscriber limit and the sign-up form rules before you commit.
- A spreadsheet for weekly numbers: posts published, clicks, sign-ups, sales.
- The opt-in page or link tool that comes with your program.
Free traffic options for beginners
Free traffic means you trade hours for reach. The most common starting points:
- Short video on the platform where your audience already spends time.
- Pinterest, where useful posts can keep sending visitors over time.
- YouTube tutorials that answer one specific question.
- Communities and forums where you answer questions first and share a link only where the rules allow it.
No follower count is needed to start. If you have no audience yet, that is normal. The comparison in best traffic sources for affiliate marketing helps you choose one. Stay with it for at least 60 days before you judge it.
Can you do affiliate marketing for free?
You can start for free, and some people keep it free for a long time. Free has three limits, though:
- Admin steps. A tax form, a taxpayer ID or a small verification can appear when you begin to earn, as the platform pages above show.
- Speed. Free traffic is slower to build than paid traffic, and you cannot buy your way past that.
- Tool limits. Free plans have caps. You may hit them exactly when things start working.
That is why I treat the free phase as a test of the idea and of your own consistency. If the test goes well, you will know what is worth paying for.
A zero-budget plan for your first 14 days
This is a planning template, not a promise of results. Adjust it to your week.
| Days | Focus | Output |
|---|---|---|
| 1-2 | Choose topic and offer; read the terms | One offer, one sentence describing the buyer |
| 3-4 | Free training; get your tracked link | Training done, link saved and tested |
| 5-6 | Set up the opt-in page and disclosure line | A page that collects emails |
| 7-13 | Publish on one free channel | A small batch of helpful posts |
| 14 | Review inputs | Posts, clicks, sign-ups logged; one thing to change |
When does a small paid step make sense?
Not on day one. Consider spending when you have finished the free plan for a couple of weeks and one of these is true:
- You keep getting stuck on the same step, and a structured training would save you weeks of guessing.
- You have reached a free plan's limit, such as the subscriber cap on your email tool.
- You have a working channel and want to test one small improvement, such as a better page.
Prefer small, one-time purchases you can test over monthly subscriptions, and only pay for what you have already used the free version of. Leave paid ads for later. The beginner budget guide breaks down spending tiers and what to skip, and OLSP system cost shows the price of every step in that ecosystem.
The OLSP fit: a free start, then an optional $7 step
I'm an OLSP affiliate and earn a commission if you join through my links. OLSP is Wayne Crowe's affiliate training platform, and it is one practical option among several, not the only route.
- The zero-cost start: a free OLSP Academy account with the 10-Minute Commission Challenge, a short step-by-step beginner course. It asks for a name, email and password, and no credit card.
- The optional small step: the Mega Link, a one-time $7. It gives you a tracked link and access to a done-for-you digital product library (products from $7 to $97), plus live training sessions with Wayne Crowe and a community.
- Commissions: 100% on front-end sales as a Mega Link owner, and 200% across two levels as a Community Builder, a higher tier. Recruiting is not required to earn front-end commissions.
- Guarantee: the "Show Me It Works" 30-day guarantee applies if you join, watch the orientation, share your link and attend at least one live session. The official refund policy mentions possible deductions.
A sensible order at zero budget: take the free challenge first, decide whether the approach suits you, and only then consider the $7 step. The sign-up guide shows the screens, and is OLSP legit? covers the trust questions.
My own OLSP affiliate dashboard shows $1,661.45 in lifetime earnings as of September 30, 2026 (see the home page). That is my individual result and not a typical one.
Results vary and are not typical. Earnings depend on your effort, consistency and traffic, and no income is guaranteed.
Join OLSP through my link and get my 8-part bonus stack
OLSP gives you the system, the training and the live coaching. My bonuses help you get moving faster inside it. Three of the eight:
- OLSP Passive Rewards Map: every way OLSP rewards members outside of recruiting, broken down by level, plus a weekly checklist so you actually claim them.
- Ready-to-Use Funnel Setup: step-by-step instructions to get your Mega Link and squeeze page set up correctly.
- 12 Traffic Strategies, Step by Step: twelve ways to send visitors to your Mega Link, each broken into clear steps.
The bonuses come from me, not from OLSP. I earn a commission if you join through my link, at no extra cost to you.
Mistakes that make "free" expensive
- Running several channels at once. You spread your hours thin and learn nothing. Pick one.
- Collecting free courses instead of publishing. Learning feels productive. Publishing is what gets clicks.
- Skipping the email list. Social reach belongs to the platform. Your list belongs to you.
- Ignoring promotion rules. A banned account costs more than any tool.
- Hiding the affiliate link. Clear disclosure protects you and your readers.
- Judging after a week. Early work is mostly invisible. Judge inputs first.
- Spending on a shortcut in week one. Use the free version first, then decide.
