Take a free affiliate marketing course first, learn the basics, then pay only for training that shows a clear curriculum, real support and refund terms in writing. Do you need an affiliate marketing course?
No. Many affiliate programs are free to join, and plenty of affiliate marketing training is published for free. A course does one job well: it puts the steps in order, so you do not lose weeks jumping between videos that contradict each other.
What a course cannot do is send traffic to your link. The training only pays off if you apply it. That is why the safest route is to start free, finish something, and only then decide whether you want more structure. Free vs paid affiliate marketing training: what you actually get
Free training usually covers the basics: what affiliate marketing is, how links and commissions work, and one or two ways to get traffic. Free courses are often published by a software company or a program owner, so expect a pitch for their product at some point. That is normal. Just know it going in.
Paid training usually adds a longer curriculum, a community, live sessions or coaching, templates and tools. The price is not the risk on its own. The risk is the total path: an entry price that looks small, followed by upgrades you did not plan for. Always ask what the full path costs, not only the entry price.

Where can you find a free affiliate marketing course?
These are the free affiliate marketing training options I checked on their official pages in September 2026. Details can change, so confirm on the page before you sign up.
- OLSP Academy: 10-Minute Commission Challenge. A short, step-by-step beginner course. You join with name, email and password, and no credit card is needed. This is the one I take you through in the OLSP section below (I am an affiliate, disclosed there).
- Voluum Academy. The official page says the academy is free and asks for no payment details. It lists three courses, including "How to start affiliate marketing," which it describes as for beginners. It is built by an ad-tracking software company, and the third course is about optimizing campaigns with that tool (official page, as of September 2026).
- Coursera: "Affiliate Marketing Course." Offered by Simplilearn and listed as a beginner-level course of about 4 hours. The page shows free enrollment, while the certificate is paid (official page, as of September 2026). It is a general overview, useful for vocabulary and concepts.
- Wealthy Affiliate Starter. The pricing page shows a free Starter plan with no credit card, limited to one limited website and limited support (official page, as of September 2026). It suits people who want to build a content website.
- YouTube. Free and huge, but unsorted. If you go this route, pick one creator and follow their beginner playlist to the end before switching.

What do paid affiliate marketing courses cost?
Prices range widely, from a few dollars to several thousand, and I will not quote a range I cannot source. Two verified examples as of September 2026:
- Wealthy Affiliate Premium: shown as $41 per month when billed yearly at $497, and Premium Plus at $49 per month when billed yearly at $588. The page says you can upgrade, downgrade or cancel from account settings (official pricing page, as of September 2026).
- OLSP Mega Link: $7 one-time. Optional higher tiers exist, and I break them down in the OLSP cost guide.
For other paid courses, I would rather you check the sales page yourself than trust a price I have not verified. Use the checklist below.
How do you judge an affiliate marketing course? A 7-point checklist
- Who teaches it? A real, findable person with a track record you can check outside their own sales page.
- What does the full path cost? Entry price, upgrades, monthly fees and tools. Write the total down.
- Can you preview it? Sample lessons, a free module or a public curriculum beat a promise.
- Is it built for beginners? It should explain terms, not assume them.
- What support exists? Live sessions, a community, or a way to ask questions and get answers.
- Are refund terms in writing? Read the conditions, not only the headline.
- Are earnings claims honest? Real disclaimers, no guarantees, no "anyone can" language.
What are the red flags, and what is the refund reality?
The FTC's advice on business coaching scams lists warning signs that fit affiliate courses well: guaranteed income, promises of quick and easy money, "proven system" pitches, pressure to act now, and testimonials that may be fabricated. It also notes that no one can guarantee you will make a lot of money with little risk, and that a lack of complaints does not prove a program is legitimate (FTC Consumer Advice).
On refunds: a guarantee is only as good as its conditions. Most have some, such as completing lessons, attending sessions or asking within a set window. Course or done-for-you system?
A course teaches you how to build things. A done-for-you system gives you assets that are already built, so you spend your time on traffic. Neither is automatically better. If you like learning by building, a course fits. If you would rather start sharing a link quickly, a system fits. Can you get paid to learn affiliate marketing?
Not in the way an apprenticeship pays you. Nobody hires you to learn affiliate marketing; you earn only when someone buys through your link, and that is never guaranteed. What you can do is keep the learning cost at zero with free training, and then decide if a small paid step is worth it. With a program that pays commissions on its own front-end sale, the training can in principle be offset by sales, but only if you make them.
